For our LOOOOONG trip across the country (From Chicago, IL to Helendale, CA – 2000 miles), we rented a truck and squeezed everything we own in it. With walkie-talkies in hand Geoffrey manned the truck while I followed in our mini-van. Most people would think it sheer madness attempting such a trip in the middle of January, but of course the Schlottman’s had to prove that it was in fact possible. Not only did we weather some pretty tough conditions (especially over the Rocky Mountains), we also did it in what I think must be a record for this time of year: 3 days!!!
We arrived Wednesday night (Jan. 31st) – found a house on Thursday and was all moved-in on Friday! I know… we’re amazing! (or just plain crazy?!)
We were rushed to find a home and decided to only sign a 6-month lease. We’ll decide later whether or not to move into a bigger place (Our home only has 2 bedrooms, but 21/2 baths – which is really nice).
The kids are settling in fast. Their toys were in storage for 7 months, so it’s like having ALL new stuff for them! We have a beautiful park with a playground right next door and our backyard is fenced so the kids are getting plenty of fresh air! And the weather…. WOW… It’s sunny and warm!
I will have Geoffrey write a post on all his adventures working for the Federal Prison System!!! Believe me, it’s quite a change for him… but more on that later…
